We begin with the utter nonsense of a date being unlucky.  Seriously?  I don’t think so.  But I’m not of a mind to battle superstition (did you know in Spanish-speaking countries, instead of Friday, Tuesday the 13th is considered a day of bad luck?)  Hmmmmm, how bout that? Who knew?  Now you do.

And don’t we all carry around a bit of  personal Friday 13th?  We schlep beliefs and behaviors, our own superstitions of a sort, that hinder instead of free us.  That have us believing the bad things about ourselves more than the good things.  In my world, that just won’t do.  Life’s too damn short to beat yourself up.

So instead of joining the estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States affected by a fear of Friday 13th, I chose to celebrate it.  And I’ll celebrate the Friday 13ths in April and August too. (Who knows how but it’ll be good! Maybe we need to have a special Friday 13thcocktail—ooooooooh, let’s work on that!  Send us your ideas!) Because that change in perspective, that seeing something differently, with different eyes and mind and heart, is wonderfully, fabulously freeing.

Ready for your cocktail concepts

“I’ve never looked at it that way” and “I’ve never thought of that” are two of my favorite phrases.  I love the light bulb-in-the-brain sensation, the “a-hah” moment, the OMG flash of clarity. Those insights mean I’m growing, changing, living in some good questions and am open to answers.  So I’ve decided that Friday 13this my luckiest day, because I can.  Because it’s my life and I get to decide.  Because I’m in the driver’s seat here and I can’t be held back by superstitions, negative thoughts, beating myself up or bad hair days.  I hope you feel the same way!

The ULTIMATE driver's seat.

So let’s move forward into our lives with a sense of adventure and confidence, ready to learn, laugh, love and let go.  Oh, and in the meantime, watch out for black cats, don’t break mirrors and stay in bed on Tuesday 13th, I hear it’s gonna be a humdinger.

One Friday at a time . . .
